Recent advancements in the diagnostic of human metapneumovirus (hMPV)
Recent advancements in the diagnostic of human metapneumovirus (hMPV) have focused on improving the speed, accuracy, and convenience of testing methods.
One notable development is the use of multiplex PCR assays, which can simultaneously detect multiple respiratory viruses, including hMPV, in a single test. These assays offer high sensitivity and specificity, allowing for the rapid and accurate identification of hMPV infections alongside other common respiratory pathogens like influenza and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV).

These techniques offer faster turnaround times and can be performed on a variety of sample types, including nasopharyngeal swabs and respiratory secretions.
